Wine & Design, the new art studio at 5002 Spedale Ct. will be holding its grand opening Jan. 31.

This “paint and sip” establishment is the second to be opened by owner Niccole Jackson. Her first studio opened in Franklin in June 2017. Both are the only Wine & Design studios in Tennessee.

Jackson came to the area by way of Nebraska, having spent two decades in a corporate role before investing in the Wine & Design franchises.

“I came to a company and they reorganized. I was going to have to move again. So I said, ‘I think I’m going to leave corporate America’ and I was looking for something for my daughter and I to do,” Jackson said. “She’s dyslexic. I looked for a business she and I could do together because she’s very creative. I looked at it as an opportunity for her. It really helped her step out of her shell. She now teaches some classes, some to children, some to adults.”

The Raleigh, N.C. based company has approximately 80 franchises nationwide.

Wine & Design company owners Patrick and Harriet Mills were featured on ABC’s “Shark Tank” during which they stuck an investment deal with “Mr. Wonderful,” Kevin O’Leary.

During the Jan. 31 grand opening, a ribbon cutting with the Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The celebration will include music, complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic beverages from 6: 30 – 9:00 p.m. Painting classes will start at 7 p.m. at a discounted price of $20 per customer. All customers will receive a $50 coupon good for future team building classes.

Wine is BYOB for those who wish to imbibe.

“We design it. You bring the wine,” Studio Manager Rochelle Barnes said.

The festivities continue for four consecutive days and include specials and a chance to win prizes.

Thursday, Feb. 1 will be “Best Friends Night Out.” Buy one, get one free classes are available with the code “84grand502.”

Friday, Feb. 2 is set as “Date Night.” Again, buy one get one free is available with the code “84grand503.”

“Date Night. That’s where the women have to drag the men and then they’re really happy once they come. They really enjoy themselves,” Barnes said.

Saturday, Feb 3 features two events. For the kids, an “Art Buzz Party” will be held from noon – 2:30 p.m for the discounted price of $15. Complimentary snacks, pizza and Padrino Pops will be served.

Later, a ’70s – ’80s party will be held from 7 – 9 p.m. Participants are invited to don their favorite ’70s – ’80s threads and jam out to a DJ during the painting class. The best-dressed participant will win one free monthly class for a year.

Customers including those who doubt their ability to produce a painting are guided step-by-step by art instructors to turn out a piece they’d be proud to take home and display. The medium is acrylic paint on canvas and all supplies are provided at the studio.

“We do pre-trace canvases. Our canvases are not all blank. People come in and have a starting point. People can have a blank canvas if they choose to have one, but for the most part, we start with something that’s already pre-traced onto the canvas. It helps them not to be as intimidated. People find it a little more enjoyable and not as stressful,” Jackson said.

The gallery has 6,000 painting templates from which to choose. Art instructors are further empowered to elaborate on the templates, allowing for even more variation.

“In some cases, we work with organizations, so if they want to have something custom that’s unique to their organization, we have artists who are able to do that as well,” Jackson said.

“Paint It Forward” is another event in which Wine & Design partners with an organization or charity for fundraising.

But that’s just the start.

“We are all about creating fun experiences. We do a little more than just paint. We love to have fun. Some of it is karaoke, some of it is dancing, a little singing, all kinds of things,” Jackson said. “We do it through team building, our Art Buzz Kids’ Program — they seem to love that. We do a lot of girls’ night out type of events.”

“You can bring whatever food or drinks you want so it’s not just limited to sitting down and painting. We do bachelorette parties, baby showers. We also have a program on wheels where we come to your location. Anything you can think of, you can do your party here,” Barnes said.

Wine & Design can even host a guy’s night out. Want to try your hand at painting a Tennessee Titans football helmet on canvas?

“We actually have that,” Barnes said. “Any type of painting, we can do.”

Other Tennessee-themed templates were created by Wine & Design specifically for the Franklin and Spring Hill franchises.

Wine & Design is also planning a “Moms and Muffins” event in which mothers can drop their kids off at school and then stop in for a class and snacks.

The Spring Hill Wine & Design studio shares art instructors with their Franklin location, but is hiring more.
