Homeschool Art Series – Styles of the Masters (8 Weeks)

Give your homeschool student the chance to learn art history and painting techniques through the styles of the world’s most famous artists.
In this special 8-week series, students explore a new master painter each week — discovering what made their style unique and completing a hands-on project inspired by their techniques.

What Students Will Learn:

• Foundational painting skills such as color mixing, brush control, layering, and composition
• How to recognize and replicate signature styles of history’s greatest artists
• Art history basics presented in an engaging, age-appropriate way
• Creative confidence through instructor-guided, style-inspired projects

Weekly Artist Lineup:

• Week 1 – Vincent van Gogh: Bold brushstrokes, swirling skies, expressive color
• Week 2 – Claude Monet: Soft Impressionist light, broken color, water lily techniques
• Week 3 – Georgia O’Keeffe: Large-scale close-ups, smooth gradients, organic forms
• Week 4 – Pablo Picasso: Cubism, geometric abstraction, expressive shapes
• Week 5 – Henri Matisse: Bold colors, simplified forms, cut-out inspired compositions
• Week 6 – Frida Kahlo: Symbolism, personal storytelling, expressive portraiture
• Week 7 – Jackson Pollock: Abstract expressionism, movement, splatter techniques
• Week 8 – Hokusai: Stylized lines, limited palettes, The Great Wave–inspired painting

Class Format:

• Each week features a short introduction to that week’s artist
• Students view several example works and learn what makes the artist’s style unique
• Each class ends with a fully guided project inspired by that artist’s approach
• Instruction is tailored by age group (7–10, 11–14, and 15–18), but families may attend together
• Students may bring sketchbooks if they want to practice concepts at home

Our instructors are trained artists with experience teaching young learners and homeschool families. Each class is designed to be age-appropriate, educational, and highly engaging, while still giving students the freedom to express themselves.

Follow-On Opportunities:

Students who fall in love with a particular style or medium can continue in our specialty workshops, studio classes, and returning homeschool series. Each program builds on previous skills without repeating the same lessons.
